The Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office, a part of DCF, serves as the state’s single authority for substance abuse and mental health services. We are responsible for planning, evaluating, and implementing a comprehensive system of care for individuals with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.
North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216-bed, all-male, forensic mental health rehabilitation facility located on 639 acres in northeast Gainesville, Florida. Our facility employs a diverse workforce of dedicated professionals across various roles, ensuring comprehensive care and support for our residents.

Job Description
We are seeking a highly responsible and professional REGISTERED NURSE SUPERVISOR-F/C – 60006101 to collaborate with various sections within state facilities. The ideal candidate should exhibit independent judgment, take initiative, and possess exceptional attention to detail.
Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse Supervisor F/C will spend at least 75% of their time in direct contact with residents at a forensic facility. This position involves lifting, pulling, and squatting, and requires knowledge and utilization of Total Quality Management principles. As a qualified and licensed registered nurse, the incumbent will provide nursing supervision, practice, and administrative duties. They will work closely with and report to the Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor, guiding the care and treatment of residents.
Duties Include
- Supervising and coaching nursing and direct care staff.
- Administering appropriate disciplinary actions if needed.
- Assisting in the selection and interviewing of nursing service personnel.
- Ensuring nurses have current licensure and required CEUs.
- Monitoring resident care, documentation, and compliance with standards/regulations.
- Completing evaluations and providing training to staff.
- Assigning staff and monitoring medication education groups.
- Providing immediate emergency nursing care during crises.
- Documenting all pertinent information during a manual, seclusion/restraint process.
- Serving as a resource person for staff training and education programs.
- Other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 and at least two years of Registered Nursing experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to supervise and provide direct patient care and treatment.
- Ability to assess patients’ progress and evaluate nursing care plans.
- Ability to work with patients having various physical problems.
- Ability to plan, develop, and conduct training programs.
- Ability to prioritize work and establish effective working relationships.
