Job Responsibilities
As an Experienced Pharmacy Technician at our facility, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our pharmacy. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Medication Dispensing: Accurately prepare and dispense prescription medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and maintain pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
- Patient Interaction: Assist patients by answering questions, providing medication information, and ensuring high level of customer service.
- Prescription Processing: Verify prescription information, enter data into the pharmacy system, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Compounding: Prepare custom medications as required, adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
- Administrative Duties: Perform clerical tasks such as filing, record-keeping, and managing patient profiles.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacists, healthcare providers, and other team members to deliver optimal patient care.
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION: Pharmacy Technician Jobs
- Pharmacy Technician Certification
- NM Board of Pharmacy License
- National Board Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College courses preferred but not mandatory
EXPERIENCE:
- 2–3 years of pharmacy technician experience preferred
WORK SCHEDULE:
- May include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, using a computer keyboard)
- Lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions
- Stooping or kneeling to retrieve items from lower shelves or file documents
- Walking or standing for extended periods (4–8 hours)
- Must be able to operate job-related equipment
CRITICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work accurately with attention to detail within set timeframes
- Strong teamwork skills to collaborate with health system and pharmacy staff
- Adaptability to frequent interruptions and workload changes
- Ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems efficiently
- Quick response to emergency requests
- Effective communication skills (oral and written)
- Capability to assist in providing pharmaceutical care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS
- Possible exposure to infectious patients or materials
- Potential contact with hazardous substances, including chemotherapy drugs and cleaning solutions
- Risk of needle sticks, cuts, or musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting techniques are not followed
